Millfield formally celebrated it's dual specialism through a launch event held on 16/17th March 2006.  This makes Millfield one of two schools to hold this particular specialism

Welcome to Millfield Science and Performing Arts College. We have been a specialist college since September 2005 and are very excited about the wonderful opportunity that this provides for us.

We are one, of only two, Science and Performing Arts Colleges in the country. The two, very different specialsims allows us to develop out students into inspired, creative learners who will take their knowledge, skill and talent into higher education, training and the world of work.

The specialism is the driving force which allows us to deliver our vision: “Success for All”. It means that we can build on current practice and further improve attainment and achievement.

There are three main areas to college status: improving attainment, working with the community, and developing resources. Attainment will be improved through the development of creative and motivating learning and teaching styles, in a climate that is conducive to learning, where every child matters and is considered an individual with individual needs and requirements.

Every child here at Millfield will be encouraged and supported to achieve their best, not only in exam results but in all areas of their personal development. Their lessons are enriched by extra-curricular activities involving drama and science workshops and projects which include links with Victrex, a worldwide plastics manufacturer and a major employer within the area; through drama productions like performance projects which children are able to share with the local community.

Developing community links means that partner primary and secondary schools will be able to share our resources and our students will get the opportunity to work with people from further and higher educations and with local employers such as Asahi glass, Morrisons and local public services. All designed to make each transition between and after school as seamless and natural as possible.

Finally, we are able to develop our resources by building state-of –the-art facilities in Science and Drama. Facilities which include a modern ICT suite and a theatre and dance studio which have up to date sound and lighting equipment. All of which is supported by re-development of current courses and the designing of new curriculums to ensure that the needs of all our children can be met.

Being a Science and Performing Arts College, Millfield will give children the skills in creativity and communication which will enable them to make a positive contribute to the local and the wider community. The skills developed in science will mean that they have the practical skills to use their creativity purposefully. In this way, Millfield’s students today, will be happy, healthy and successful adults tomorrow.
